Dottie's World Sunday Challenge - Coffee and Cream

Oh what a beautiful morning..... oh what a beautiful day!! Sorry, I just broke out in song then because I've woken up to the most fantastic weather, which is perfect timing as my son is having his birthday party in the garden today. Can't believe I'm up so early on a Sunday morning too, but once I opened my eyes, saw that the sun was shining and heard the birds singing their 'Good Mornings', I just had to get up.

I'm so excited to show you my first Design Team card for the Dottie's World Challenge today! The lovely Louise asked me if I would be on the team and of course I was delighted to accept. Working with the Charmed downloads is an absolute pleasure - if you've not bought any yet then what are you waiting for?! They are so stylish and fantastic value too!!

I decided to use one of the scrummy Mikey downloads for this week's card. The theme is Coffee and Cream and I think this works really well on a male card. We're also asked to think stripes or spots, so I included the musical paper strips which have lines on for the notes (thinking back to my school days I'm sure that's called a stave?) and my spots are the letter stickers spelling out 'ROCK'.

I'm giving this card to my son on his actual birthday tomorrow - he's a bit of a budding guitar player so he should appreciate what I've done. Cards don't mean that much to a nine-year-old do they, but he does take an interest in what I do so hopefully he'll be happy.

I've been made to feel really welcome on joining the team at Dottie's World. Thanks for that girls and a big wave to the other newbies - isn't this fun?! I do hope you can join us for this week's challenge and can't wait to see what you create ;o)

ABC Challenge - P is for Pearls......

Good morning everyone!

Hope you are enjoying half term if you're off with the kids. I have to say I'm enjoying every minute of it...... no seriously!!! My kids are my best friends and I just adore spending time with them. Yes the house gets trashed a bit more and the washing seems to be double, but who cares about that! I think one big spring clean will do the trick when they're back to school. We went to see Night at the Museum 2 yesterday and I have to say it was superb - just as good as the first one if not better and there were some great special effects!

I made this card last night for my son to give to his friend Emma, as he's been invited to her swimming party which is tomorrow. I thought with it being a Summer (ish) birthday this Miss Anya stamp would be perfect. The stamps from The Greetings Farm really are fantastic to work with and you get a perfect image every time. I decoupaged the flower garland in her hair and added some sticky pearls to the centre of the flowers. I finally got my hands on some Bristol Board and I have to say it is the best thing if you want to blend your Copics, as it doesn't bleed and you can really work on the shading without ending up with a soggy mess.

I cut the leaves and flowers with Sizzix dies and created the border around the image with a See D's Morsels set - these are a bit like the Tapestry Peg sets in terms of what you can achieve. The sentiment is 'Happy Birthday' in Hawaiian and I've added the same sentiment to the inside in English.

I'm entering my card into the ABC Challenge - this week's letter is P and the brief is to use pearls. I'm so pleased to be joining in with this challenge for the first time and will hopefully be back again.

As is normal for me during the hols I'm still in my PJs at lunch time, lol! I really must grab a shower now and get a bit of housework done - boo! At least when it's done I'll be able to concentrate on a bit of crafting without feeling guilty ;o)

Enjoy your day and thanks so much for stopping by!

Charisma Cardz # 20 - Flowers, Lace and Pearls

Good morning peeps!

Sorry I haven't been about much over the Bank Holiday - I've been having some fun time with my family; we managed a barbie on Sunday and then it was my Mum's birthday yesterday.

In fact, with all the activities over the past couple of days I completely forgot that my friend texted me on Friday asking me to make a card for a baby girl. She needed it for today as she's visiting her friend tonight in hospital. Lucky for me I did remember last night at about 7.30pm!! So I frantically set to work creating this card - I hadn't kept the text message but I remembered reading that the baby was being named Olivia and so decided it would be nice to personalise the card. Hmmmmmm, well I thought it was a good idea........ until I got into work this morning and showed the completed card to my friend. She looked a little bit bemused to say the least!!! Then she told me she thought the card was just perfect...... except for one thing...... THE BABY'S NAME IS SOPHIE!!!!!! PMSL!!!! Where on earth did I get Olivia from then, lol?! Too late to make another card now so she'll have to buy one this time I'm afraid. I'll just have to hope that someone I know has a baby girl named Olivia in the future, hee hee!

I thought I might enter my card into the Charisma Cardz challenge this week - at least it gives it a reason to exist, lol! The theme is flowers, lace and pearls - YUM, great brief in my book.

Have a great day and I hope to catch up with you here and there as I sneak some mini blog hops during my working day, hee hee!

Basic Grey Challenge # 36 - Doodling

Ooooops!!! I thought I'd scheduled this post last night, but seemly not! I'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on, lol!

Here we are at this week's Basic Grey Challenge which is doodling, something I really love to do. Judging by my fellow teamies' creations they are all closet doodlers at heart too and there really are some fab creations for you to see.

I used a delish image sent to me by the lovely Chris in a birthday parcel recently. I don't own any Alota stamps yet so it was lovely to get some of the images to play with. I coloured and doodled some flower chippies and drew my own leaves to add on. One of my colleagues is off work on long term sick as she has herniated a disc in her back, so I thought I'd send her a card so she knows we haven't forgotten about her!

Materials:
Image - Alota
Sentiment - from stash
Papers - Basic Grey Cupcake
Colouring - Copics
Flowers - Woodware Chippies
Accents - Black Fineliner for doodling

Don't forget the Basic Grey Challenge will be closed next week whilst some alterations take place - there will be a grand relaunch the week after with a new look blog and lots of yummy goodies to win. Don't miss it will you?

Before I go I must just show you this gorgeous award I received from Lisa, isn't it sweet?

I'm passing it on to Sharon for baby Oscar, as he needs all the bear hugs he can get right now!

The Sugar Bowl # 11 - A Sketch

This week over at The Sugar Bowl there is a fab sketch to work with provided by Kathy. It really is a great layout and I think I'll be using it again in the future. The extra option is to use pearls, so I used liquid pearls for edging and some lovely pearl buttons for the flower centres and image corners.

I must admit, I haven't really used these Basic Grey Eva papers much but I'm so glad I picked them out today. They really are nice and the shades of pink and green are quite unusual. I was able to use this Gorjuss image courtesy of my matey Jo, who kindly sent me a bundle to play with. What would we do without our friends to share with?!

The challenge prize this week is amazing - no less than six stamps of your choice from Funky Kits. WOW! Hop over and check it out in more detail and take a look at the cards the girls have come up with, they're so inspiring.

Materials:

Sentiment - Studio G
Papers - Basic Grey Eva
Colouring - Copics
Embossing - Cuttlebug Folder
Die - QuicKutz Vine and BossKut Daisy
Embellishments - Pearl Beads from stash
Accents - Liquid Pearls

I've been changing beds and cleaning the oven today - that's what a girl gets up with when she has an extra day off. Whoopidoo!! We'll have to have butties for tea - after all that grafting nobody and nothing is going to mess up my oven now!!

Copic Colour Challenge # 14

I've had a lovely day crafting with my friend Sarah today and managed to make this card for the Copic Colour Challenge, which I really enjoy entering. Of course I'm now miles behind with all my jobs but they can wait for another day. Given the choice what would you do...... sit and natter with a matey, drinking tea and eating blueberry muffins, or settle down to a nice big pile of ironing and run the hoover round? It's a no brainer!! Of course, when the hubster returns from work, the ironing board might just have magically appeared and there may be a bead or two of sweat to be mopped from the brow of his hardworking wifey...... hee hee!

When I saw the colours for this week's challenge I knew I was going to have to create something bright and cheerful. What better way to ward off the horrible rain we keep getting than with this gorgeous image of Holly on the beach. If you don't already know, Holly is part of the World Tour download from Charmed Cards and Crafts.

It's worth a visit to the Copic Colour challenge if you get a chance, it's really good fun to play along and if you don't have the right colours then improvisation is the word!

A 'Just Because' Card.......

Morning peeps!

Here is a card I have made 'just because'. Not for any of the millions of challenges there are out there, but because I can't leave my new Annie stamps alone. Check out Charmed Delectable Stamps for the full range....... I bet something will drop into your basket, hee hee!

I thought I'd go with a 'thank you' theme on this one as you can never have too many of these. I always think it's nice to send a thank you card when someone goes the extra mile for you and handmade is always very well received. I enjoyed using these Basic Grey Marakkesh papers, as they're lovely subtle colours. Couldn't resist paper piecing Annie's dress too, seeing as it's my fave crafting technique just now.

Materials:
Image - Charmed Cards
Sentiment - from stash
Papers - Basic Grey Marrakesh
Colouring - Copics
Embossing - Cuttlebug Dots Panel, Cuttlebug Script Folder
Punch - Woodware Medium and Small Flower
Embellishments - Brads from stash

I'm at work...... again, but looking forward to a day off tomorrow when I'll be crafting with a friend and no doubt nattering and nibbling all day too! We usually do!!

Just Magnolia # 5 - A Sketch

Good afternoon everyone!

Hope you are all well and have enjoyed your weekend. The rain doesn't seem to have left us just yet does it, so we'll just have to imagine those hot, sunny days a bit longer!

Well thanks to all of you who wished me good luck with my housework yesterday....... you kind lot!!! I did get it all done and the house managed to stay spic and span for all of about half an hour, when the hubster came home from work and my son returned from playing at a friend's house. Bless 'em!! Anyway, I did managed to fit in some crafting time, in fact I managed to make three cards!!! Must be a record for me in one day!

I'm showing you the first one I made which I'm entering into the Just Magnolia Challenge. This week there is a brilliant sketch provided by Naoual, which was great fun to work with. I had a rummage through my stash of image and came up with this delectable Cross Stitch Tilda, she really is a cutie!

Colour Create Sixteen - Sky Blue, Tan and Ecru

Good morning folks!

I'm going to make this post uber short today because I have housework and washing just screaming out to be done. I've tried to ignore the noise but it won't go away! I also want to get stuck in to some card making later on, because how often do we have that on our agenda and then realise that the day has gone before we've had a chance to get started. I'm determined to enter a couple of challenges this week so I'd best get my organised head on!

The Colour Create challenge is brought to us this week by our lovely Kim and the colours are just scrumptious. Hop over and take a look at the cards and projects the Design Team have made, they're sure to inspire you to have a go.

The optional extra this week is to use gloss, glitter or glaze and I'm hoping you'll be able to pick this up on my card today. I use glossy accents on the bicycle frame and tyre.

Basic Grey # 35 - Ice Cream

Good morning everyone!

Not the best of days weather wise but I hope you're all enjoying your weekend anyway. I'm off to a friend's this afternoon for a chinwag with cake and a brew, so it couldn't be better really!

This week over at Basic Grey the brief is to use 'ice cream' as your inspiration. Think shape, colour, texture - anything that springs to mind really. My ultimate love when it comes to all things ice cream is the knickerbockerglory! My dear Nan (god bless her) used to take me out as a child and treat me to one of these. And when you're small don't they just seem like the biggest thing ever, lol! I always loved all the fruit at the bottom and the layer upon layer of cream and ice cream in between. Hence, I've tried to include layering and fruits on my card. I must give a shout to Mina for the inspiration I got when layering the doily punched edges - she made a fab card a few weeks back doing the very same thing and I thought it looked gorgeous!

Hop over for a peek at what my teamies have come up with this week. The colours and designs are sure to make you drool and, as always, they've all done such an amazing job!

Friday Sketchers # 51 - Celebrating an Anniversary!

Hiya folks!

Firstly I'd just like to apologise for not getting around to visiting most of you this week! I don't know where the time has gone really, but I suppose I have been quite busy doing stuff with the kids after school which is when I often sit down for a blog hop. Not complaining too much about that though as I often feel bad about the amount of time I spend on the PC when I could be with the kids, so it was quite a refreshing change. I promise to catch up with you all in the next day or two though and sort myself out.

This card is one I made over the weekend for the Friday Sketcher's Challenge, but I haven't been able to show you until now because it's also for my blogging buddy and teamie Tab, who celebrates her 30th birthday today. Have a great day lovely!! You still have time to enter this week's FS and, as well as the usual prizes, each DT member is offering candy to some of the lucky entrants as well. How fab is that?! It's all to celebrate the anniversary of the FS challenge, which is as popular now as when it started. Way to go girls!!!!

I've used one of my new Annie stamps from Charmed Cards, isn't she gorgeous?! These new stamps are excellent quality, great value and stamp beautifully - well worth a purchase if you feel like treating yourself...... and let's face it who doesn't, lol!
Ooooh, whilst I think on, Charmed Cards are having a mega party next week with oodles of prizes. Check out the info on my sidebar, definitely worth a visit!!

Dottie's World Sunday Challenge - Charms....

Good morning!

Hope you are all well and holding on to the sunshine! It's certainly not as warm today in the wind and it looks as though the blossom has now disappeared. Such a shame it only lasts a couple of weeks - one wet and windy spell and it's over. Here I go waffling on about flowers again, lol!

My card is an entry into this week's Dottie's World Sunday Challenge where Juliet has set the brief. She would like us to use charms on our creations. Hmmmmmm, I really love the look of charms and lots of peeps use them so effectively on their projects, but I hardly ever use them!! So this was a good challenge for me as it made me do something different.

I love this gorgeous cowgirl from the Holly & Maddison World Tour downloads - she just looks so cool. As I was putting the elements together for the card I remembered a Sizzlit die I have lurking in my vast collection and decided it would be perfect for this scene. I also tried very hard to pick my papers from something other than the Basic Grey ranges and came up with the background from a Kay & Co collection, although you might notice that a bit of Basic Grey did sneak in from the Wisteria range...... ooops, guess I'm just a BG addict at heart, lol!

Materials:
Image - Holly & Maddison World Tour
Sentiment - Mini Stamp Blocks
Papers - Kay & Co, Basic Grey
Colouring - Polychromos
Die - Sizzlit Cowboy Boot
Flowers - Flora Doodles, Prima
Large Brad - Papermania
Embellishments - String, Spacers and Charm from stash

Right, enough waffling from me as I'm at work and should be shuffling paper!! Catch you later ;o)

Colour Create Fifteen - Green and Blue

Good morning folks!

YAY, it's Sunday and that means another challenge over at Colour Create! This week's is a gorgeous colour combo of green and blue, plus we have paper piecing as the extra option. Our lovely Heather came up with the colours and theme so I really hope you'll be able to join in and support her this week. I love what the DT come up with each week, but this week really is something else. All I can say is WOW! Hop over and take a peek at all the stunning creations, you'll be glad you did.

I have to say that paper piecing is probably my fave technique in card making so I was in my element creating my card for this week's challenge. I think this sweet Miss Anya image is perfect to show off the patterned papers too, her boots and bag just cry out to be pieced. I used some of my scrummy Kay & Co papers for this one, I love the shades of green and blue. The gorgeous glittered butterfly was sent in a RAK from my lovely pal Tara G and I couldn't believe how perfectly it matched in.

You may notice that might blog has changed quite a bit today. Well I have been pondering for some time about how to make my photos bigger, then yesterday I spotted a post on Debbie's blog explaining how to achieve this. You do have to create a new template before you can make the changes and it does mess up the layouts on your previous posts, but if you're looking to enlarge your projects then it's well worth a little inconvenience. Thanks Debbie for sharing this invaluable information with us, you're a gem!

Right, that's more than enough waffling for one post methinks! I need to finish a card I'm making for one of my teamies who has a birthday this week.........ooooh, I wonder who that could be!!! Then later we're off for a walk in Bluebell Wood, as we had to put it off over the Bank Holiday due to the weather.

Have a fantabulous Sunday and thanks so much for stopping by. If you've left a comment then bless you - it means so much to hear your thoughts and I appreciate you taking the time when we all have such busy schedules.

TTFN and TFL xxx

UPDATE: We've just returned from Bluebell Wood and the camera was playing up a bit, but I did manage to get these piccies.

The first one is a baby owl we found asleep on a branch. He didn't flinch when the flash went off, but we half expected his mum to swoop down and have a go at us, lol! The second just shows the carpet of bluebells which greets you everywhere when you arrive at the wood - they are beginning to die off now as they sadly don't last very long, so I'm glad we were able to see them today!

Most amazing was the smell of garlic throughout the wood as the garlic plants are growing. I love the smell but I have to say the kids were holding their noses quite a bit!!! xx

Basic Grey Challenge # 34 - Anthea's Sketch

Good morning everyone and welcome to the weekend!

Here is my card for this week's Basic Grey Challenge, based on a gorgeous sketch by our lovely Anthea. Those of you out there who enjoy working with sketches (and let's face it, who doesn't?) should find this one an absolute dream. All you have to do is use something Basic Grey on your project. I have so many papers now that I wasn't sure where to start. It's always tempting to go with the newest ranges, but something drew me to the Infuse papers as I love the rich colours and beautiful floral design. I love to see which papers my teamies have chosen each week as, amazingly, we seem to choose different ranges most of the time! I hope you can visit the blogs of all the other girlies on the team, as their cards are just amazing!

For those of you who left a comment on my last card, thanks for your opinions regarding the sentiment. I have decided to play it safe (not like me really) and give hubster's aunt the Penny Black card I made at the beginning of the week. I would hate to offend anyone with my warped sense of humour, lol! It's lovely to get your thoughts though and I knew you'd help me make the right decision, so thank you ;o)

Materials:

Sentiment - Kolette Hall
Papers - Basic Grey Infuse
Colouring - Copics

Copic Colour Challenge # 12 - your opinion on something please.....

Hello again peeps!

Hope you're enjoying your evening - the sun has finally appeared here. I must confess that after being good yesterday I did sneak the heating on for half an hour today whilst I was indoors. Best not let on to Mr Hubster though, you know what they're like, lol!

The colours this week for the Copic Colour Challenge are right up my street, so I decided to have a play today. I had a flick through my mountain of images and decided upon this beauty sent to me by my gorgeous buddy Jo. I love a good old cuppa and I think this image is great fun and very sweet too.

Now, here's the bit where I need your opinion please? I made this card for my hubster's aunt who I don't know very well. I had a lovely sheet of scrapbook paper by Kay & Co with lots of witty sentiments on, so I cut one up to use on this project thinking it would be appropriate for someone in their more senior years. But now I'm thinking it's a bit cheeky and might be taken the wrong way. So I need a second opinion please - her birthday isn't until the end of next week so I have plenty of time to make another if needs be. Thanks so much ;o)

Isn't it nice when you get to use the goodies kindly sent by blogging friends?

Basic Grey # 33 Colour Combo

Evening peeps!

Sorry I am so late posting my card for this week's Basic Grey Challenge. We've been out trying to buy fish again for our new aquarium, but after having the water tested it seems it's still too alkaline.........GRRRRRR! Now we have to wait another week!

Anyway, this week at Basic Grey the brief is to make a card or project using black, grey and one other colour of your choice. There really are some lovely colours to put with black and grey which my team mates have expertly demonstrated, so hop on over and take a peek. You might just see a combo you like. The cards are stunning and all so different too! We also have a guest for May and she has created a beautiful example.

Can you believe I actually chose to make a male card!! It's all Judy's fault, lol, as she sent me a gorgeous Sugar Nellie stamp in with my blog candy and I just couldn't wait to ink the little chap up. So then when I was thinking of colours and papers I thought orange would look cool. I've used some offcuts from the Offbeat and Ambrosia ranges this time. Do you like the little silver discs I added? They're washers from the hubster's shed!! Well, waste not want not, lol!

Embellishments - Washers from the hubster's shed

I'll be back in the morning with my Colour Create card - I really hope you'll join us this week for Mina's choice...... it's a yummy colour combo!

Copic Colour Challenge # 11

Evening peeps!

I couldn't wait to join in with this week's Copic Colour Challenge when I saw the lovely colours that had been chosen. I don't think you would obviously think of putting Acid Yellow, Mint Green and Brick Beige together, but they really work! Actually, the hardest task for me was finding some papers to match in, but then I found these from the Basic Grey Offbeat collection and was away!

I hope you like the flower and leaf stamps. I'm always browsing through the rubba on Ebay and recently came across this duo. I didn't realise until they arrived in the post that they are made by Dawn Bibby - a bargain methinks for under a fiver!! Why do I have such a thing for flowers and leaves? I wonder if it's because, in real life, I do love my garden. I have a passion flower and an early clematis to show you very soon. The buds are out and they'll soon be in full bloom. I'm very proud of what we've achieved in the five years since we moved in to this house, as the garden was a total jungle. I just wish I'd taken before and after photos but this never happened. It's still a work in progress as it's huge, but we're not far off now. Chris built a gorgeous gazebo last year but the rain hampered our enjoyment of it a bit. Do you remember how wet last summer was?! Let's hope for a bit more sun this year heh?

Sorry, I totally digressed from the card then, lol! I'll love you and leave you for now, but I will return tomorrow with my Basic Grey DT card.

Materials:
Image - Sarah Kay
Sentiment - The Greetings Farm
Flower and Leaf Stamps - Dawn Bibby
Papers - Basic Grey Offbeat
Colouring - Copics
Embossing - Cuttlebug Birds
Punch - Martha Stewart Lattice Edge Border
Embellishments - White Pearls from my stash

I hope you have a truly wonderful weekend - the weather forcast is looking good. If we manage to get to Bluebell Wood for a walk on Monday I'll definitely take some piccies and pop them on here next week. See, I'm off on a tangent about flowers again, hee hee!

Toodles for now ;o) xx
